"Classic LA Happy Hours"

Los Angeles and sushi go together like… Los Angeles and sushi. If this city had an official food, it just might be sushi. Fresh, high quality sushi joints abound in LA, but eating roll after roll of this popular Japanese treat can get a little pricey- or a lot. sushi

Enter: sushi happy hour. When you're craving a fix of pickled ginger and wasabi but don't have a roll of bills to go with your rolls of spicy tuna, head to one of the following happy hours and enjoy your raw fish without cooking your wallet:

Koda Sushi and Sake on Sunset Blvd in Silver Lake serves happy hour almost all day long, from 12PM to 7PM, seven days a week. The $4 menu includes a good selection of appetizers, salads, soups, sushi and even dessert, and they usually have a $3 hand roll special as well. Sake, beer and other wines are also priced down, and don't miss the leafy patio out back!

Located on Abbott-Kinney Blvd in Venice, Wabi-Sabi has a short but sweet happy hour, taking place from 5:30PM to 6:30PM every day of the week. Select hand or cut rolls are $4.25 along with specials on baby back ribs, popcorn shrimp and fried calamari.

Combining French and Japanese cuisine, K-ZO in Culver City offers a happy hour menu at their sake bar and patio on Monday through Friday from 5:30PM to 7PM, Saturday from 12PM to 7PM and Sunday from 5PM to 7PM. Food and drink specials change weekly- change the K-ZO Facebook page for details- but everything is under $5.

Kiwami in Studio City boasts $1 Kirin draft beers at happy hour, which lasts Monday through Saturday from 5:30PM to 7:00PM and on Sunday from 3PM to 5PM. Sake specials abound as well, and they offer a discounted menu of tapas dishes and sushi rolls to munch on.

A Japanese BBQ chain with eight locations around LA including Beverly Hills, Sherman Oaks and Pasadena, Gyu-Kaku's happy hour includes 99-cent beers, $3 barbeque items and half-off all appetizers. Happy hour times and days vary by location (check the website), but in general run most days and for several hours.

En Sushi in the Griffith Park/Los Feliz neighborhood serves happy hour at the bar seven days of week from 5:30PM to 7:00PM, with a late night happy hour on Thursday from 9:30PM to 11:30PM and on Sunday from 9PM to 11PM. Appetizers like sautéed shishito or chicken yakitori go for $3.50, and sushi roll selections cost $3.50 to $5. Pitchers of Kirin draft beer are only $9 (glasses are $3), well drinks and hot sake are $4, and glasses of wine are $5.
