I've wanted to go to Paris as long as I can remember. The movies I've seen set in romantic Paris, countryside wineries, café pastries and couture fashion have all contributed to me falling in love with this French city. But let's be real for a moment, there's no friggin way I could jet off to Paris in Fall like Carrie from Sex in the City with all of those beautiful clothes because well, it would be way too expensive. A girl can dream though, so sometimes I try to find ways to accommodate my glamorous wish-list-trips with creative culinary or cocktail creations. I make lavish dishes and drinks to help me really experience the culture without breaking the bank or having to travel thousands of miles. Remember when I made my Under the Tuscan Sun drink? Anyway, with Fall finally here and scarves being delivered to my door, I thought is was time I traveled to Paris - only this year I'm going to do it for under $30! Not bad, right?

Fall in Pearis: A Pear-isan Inspired Cocktail.

Besides the seasonal weather changes, I was also inspired by pears (a great Fall fruit) to create my new Fall in Pearis cocktail. This drink has amazing flavors and if you serve it in the right glassware in the right setting, it'll feel like you just ordered it from one of those super fancy Parisian cocktail lounges. Fall in Pearis is a legitimate craft cocktail and your friends will be really impressed with your mixology skills if you decide to make this drink. And guess what? If you're the type that likes to collect antique glassware or just beautiful things in general, then you are already on the right track setting the scene for this luxurious libation! When I was creating the set backdrop for this shoot, I grabbed anything that was glamorous, sparkly or defined what I thought a classy Parisian hotel or apartment would look like. It's all part of the fun.

If you are on board to make this Pearisian-inspired drink, then you'll need a muddler, a strainer and a cocktail shaker for your mixology tools. Start with 2 pears, preferably the Bartlett varietal. The puree of 2 pears will yield 8 - 10 cocktails. Once the pears are very ripe (yellowish and slightly bruised), peel off their skin and bruises, remove the seeds, and slice and puree them with some lemon juice and sugar. Next, just follow the directions below and you will have created this delicious drink in your own home! Fall in Pearis (cocktail recipe)

Fall in Pearis Cockail #cocktail #recipe #pear #rum #Paris #Fall #fig @lovehappyhour
(makes 1 cocktail)

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz of spiced rum
  • 1 oz of Bacardi Superior white rum
  • 1 oz of pear puree *(see below)
  • 1 oz of apple cider
  • 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice *(+ 1 tbsp for puree)
  • 1/4 oz fig preserves (I used Bonne Maman)
  • 1 strawberry
  • 1 clove
  • *sugar
  • ice

    Directions:

*Make pear puree. Muddle 1 strawberry (stem removed) in a shaker tin. Add both rums, pear puree, apple cider, lemon juice, fig preserves, clove and ice to your shaker tin. Add your shaker tin top and make sure it's secure. Shake mixture very well until your shaker tin turns very frosty cold on the outside. Strain mixture through a cocktail strainer into your glass. Garnish with an optional strawberry, lemon twist or fresh sage leaf. Serve immediately and enjoy. Watch my video recipe below!

*How to make pear puree: Use a peeler to take the skin off two ripe pears (including brown bruises). Remove the pear's seeds, slice into cubes and puree in a food processor until smooth. Add 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of sugar to the puree and pulse it again until well blended. Keep the puree in an air tight container for up to a week in the refrigerator.
