I don’t know about you, but when I was a little girl, I used to beg my mom to take me to the Orange Julius counter at the mall. I loved the flavors of the orangey, fresh smoothie they would make to order and to this day, when I smell the orange blossoms bloom on my street, I’m reminded of my dreamy Orange Julius. Of course I had to do something about my childhood craving, so I created my own version of the drink with a little pop of alcohol: The Orange Julius Cocktail.

My orange flavored and spring inspired cocktail is also a great Easter beverage alternative to the typical mimosa! Substitute a bellini or a mimosa this year for your Easter entertaining and not only will you serve up a great tasting drink, but it’s likely your guests will remember their Orange Julius memories and they won’t ever forget that you served it so well to them. Another bonus of making this drink? It’s so easy to make – no straining or muddling!

I used fresh orange juice for this recipe but store bought will work fine as long as it’s a good quality orange juice like Tropicana. When you combine the unfiltered cold sake, whipped cream and regular vodka with the orange juice, the results equal dreamy creamy goodness and it also tastes a little like an orange creamsicle. Another tip for keeping your drink to stay colder longer is to pre-freeze your champagne or coupe glasses before you pour and serve your Orange Julius cocktail – what an impression you’ll leave too. Happy a Happy Easter and enjoy my new Orange Julius Cocktail! Check out my Orange Julius video recipe below:

(makes 1 cocktail)

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 oz orange juice
  • 2 oz Nigori unfiltered sake
  • 1 oz vodka (or orange flavored vodka)
  • 1/2 oz whipped cream vodka
  • ice

    Directions:

Add orange juice, unfiltered sake and both vodkas to a shaker tin with fresh ice. Shake for 10 seconds and then strain into a coupe or Champagne glass. Garnish with a mint sprig, or roll an orange peel and mint leaf up like you would a sleeping bag. Poke 1 of each through on a toothpick or cocktail pick. Enjoy!
