Cinco de Mayo: Yuzu Cutie Margarita (recipe).

Yuzu Cutie Margarita

Hi there! I’m going to start by apologizing for my tardiness with recent posts. Working 2 jobs has really slowed me down lately, and I haven’t had enough to focus on my creative projects as much as I’d love to. So, even though I totally slept in today on my one day off this week, I was determined make some cocktail magic for me to enjoy, and then pass it on to you.
Yuzu Cutie Margarita

I’m currently listening to some disco and sipping on my latest cocktail favorite, my Yuzu Cutie Margarita, while waiting for my “Drunken” Crock Pot Chicken Tacos to cook. Sure, margaritas are obviously great for summer, but they are even better for my birthday week! That’s right, if you didn’t know, now you know – my birthday falls on Cinco de Mayo, aka “Cinco de Maren,” as my friends call it.

Yuzu Juice

I love margaritas! The citrus and tequila combo is a perfect perky pick-me-up because you all know tequila is an upper, right?! Anyway, I decided to do a non-traditional margarita for my birthday this year. I had always wanted to incorporate yuzu fruit juice into a cocktail and I felt like this was the right opportunity. In my opinion, yuzu juice has a more delicate citrus flavor than the punchier lime juice. Sometimes a margarita with too much lime juice can be all the acid my tummy can handle for the day, so I thought, why not take it down a tiny notch and then add some sweetness from the one of my favorite mid-day snacks, the cutie? ;)

Yuzu Cutie Margarita

And that was how my ideas was born! Yuzu juice may be hard to find at your local grocery store, but I was able to find a small bottle on Amazon. I added minimal agave to this drink, which means less calories, and you could event omit it if you wanted, and the drink would still taste great as a skinny margarita. For a playful garnish, I added some cilantro (I’ll eat it raw) and some of the cutie wedges attached to an orange cocktail umbrella. How summer is that?! I hope you try my new Yuzu Cutie Margarita – it’s a citrus birthday party for your mouth!

Yuzu Cutie Margarita

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ oz good quality blanco tequila
  • 3/4 triple sec
  • 2 oz yuzu juice
  • 1 & ½ oz fresh cutie orange juice (plus squeezed skins)
  • 1/4 oz agave syrup
  • ice

  • Garnish:
  • garnish: cutie slices, cilantro, orange umbrella

    Directions:

Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. You can easily peel the the cutie oranges and squeeze the juice out with your hands since they are so small, then throw the peel in the shaker, too. Secure shaker top and shake until tin turns frosty cold. Strain liquid into a glass with fresh ice and add garnishes. Enjoy!
