Cha Cha Cha - Happy Hour

by Rachel Forman

Dear Love,

It's always a treat to find that something you already love has even more to offer. Like when I found out that hot guy in my Spanish class was ALSO an E.M.T., or that there isn't just one episode of Law and Order: SVU on, there's an ENTIRE LABOR DAY MARATHON. Well, I discovered that one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants ALSO has an insanely gratifying happy hour ALL WEEK LONG.

The spot is Cha Cha Cha, a spunky restaurant in Silver Lake serving up contemporary Caribbean cuisine. They have your typical happy hour on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 – 7, but the real kicker is their Sunday – Thursday happy hour: 4 – 10 PM! Yes, you heard me. ALL NIGHT. That means $2 Sangria by the glass, $10 for a pitcher, and $3 Mojitos, Margs, house wine, and certain beers. And that's just the tip of the iceberg; the food menu is really where it's at. Since the restaurant is already famous for its gourmet tapas, finding these little dishes at more than half off is a serious steal. Most tapas on the H.H. menu don't breach $4, including my personal favorite, and lifeblood, the Guava & Goat Cheese Quesadillas.

Let me repeat that. Guava & Goat Cheese Quesadillas. Apologies if your TASTEBUDS JUST EXPLODED.

Let's just say that I try to stay classy in times of distress, so when I got dumped by my boyfriend, I headed straight to Cha Cha Cha for my gourmet comfort quesadillas. Okay, I lied. I went straight to the Astroburger drive-thru and got me a grilled cheese, then headed to Cha Cha Cha a few days later with my friends Dana and KC. They're twins! We all love Cha Cha Cha not only for the food, but for its lively décor. It's everything you wanted to do to your room in middle school that your parents said no to: brightly painted walls, multi-colored string lights, big murals, a tiki hut reception…

Dana, KC and I opted for the pitcher of Sangria, with the servers generously refilling our glasses throughout the night. I'm no Sangria connoisseur, but KC, who's made it from scratch in Spain with a sexy Spaniard (maybe he was an E.M.T. too?!) gave it two thumbs up. We ordered two of the quesadillas to share at only $3 apiece and the jerk chicken pizza, which, at $5.95, is the most expensive item on the H.H. menu, coming in at approx. $1.98 per person. Big spendaaaaaaas! The quesadillas were so good that we ordered another and, coupled with the delicious complimentary bread and butter, we were filled to the brim. The wait staff was so engaging and helpful all night, and we even got lollipops on the way out! Oh yeah, did I mention I'm 8 years old?

Look, Love. There are a lot of happy hours out there that assume the food should taste as cheap as it costs. But you won't find any of that watered down ballpark onion ring chicken wing seemed-like-a-good-idea-at-the-time food at Cha Cha Cha. Where else can you find jerk pork, plantains, and guava & goat cheese quesadillas on a happy hour menu?! I love it!
