Dear Love: Happy Hour Has Arrived at Connie and Ted's in West Hollywood.

Connie & Ted's in West Hollywood

Extra, extra! Connie and Ted's in West Hollywood has finally rolled out a happy hour and thank goodness! I've been crossing my fingers for some time now, hoping that this West Hollywood seafood joint would finally offer the happy hour lovers of WeHo a new spot for some discounted drinks and apps. Well it's now official, Connie and Ted's happy hour is available Monday through Friday, 4 p.m to 6 p.m. with $5 draft beers, $6 wines by the glass, $7 punch & daily cocktails. Luckily, they also have $5 food options and 6 oysters for $10.

Now that we are officially into November, dusk's light lingers less and I'm actually prompted to hit happy hour earlier. I especially love walking in this cooler weather and the excitement of a new happy hour, so my guy and I strolled over to our neighborhood Connie and Ted's to "test things out" on Monday. For some reason, I had it in my mind that their happy hour went until 7 p.m., but it actually goes until 6 p.m. - F.Y.I. Luckily, we walked in at 5:57 p.m., and the bartender prompted us to order some food items before the clock struck 6.

I was a little under pressure so I chose 3 dishes for us and we also ordered a Rosé wine by the glass (Endless Crush) and the Eagle Rock Populist IPA. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed a big bowl of creamy looking punch. One guest asked about it and the bartender mentioned it was their happy hour $7 milk punch of the day made with Amaretto. It looked good but too bad we had showed up under the wire. Cut off…but that's the way it goes.

The first dish to arrive was the Smoked Blue Fish Dip ($6). I appreciated that the dip wasn't drowning in mayonnaise so you could actually appreciate the flavor of the smoked fish. This dish is served slightly chilled and accompanied with house made saltine crackers. My guy is a big slider fan, so we had to try The Hook Slider ($6). The bun's height seemed to overcompensate for the tiny size of the patty (I get it's a slider, but we had to slice it because it was so tall!), but the flavors were great. The Hooks 4 year-old cheddar oozed outside the bun that was smothered in caramelized onions and a 1000 island dressing, not to mention, cooked to a solid medium rare.

I must admit though, I think the real value of this happy hour came from the Josephine's Clam Cakes (3 for $5), which we were warned would take a little longer than the others to come out. However, when they did arrive, they were nice and hot and served with a side of remoulade sauce. I had to wait a moment to pop them in my mouth, but when I did, the corners of my mouth grinned with delight. The texture was warm, crispy, chewy, nicely seasoned and slightly citrusy from the squeeze of lemon I added to it.
