Dear Love: It's not too late to try the happy hour at Jones Hollywood.

Jones Hollywood "Beggars Banquet" aka happy hour

Late night happy hour seems to be a growing trend nationwide and you won't be getting any complaints from this lady. It can be really annoying to try and make that 7 p.m or 8 p.m. cut-off on certain nights, so making my drinks deals happen later in the evening just makes me a whole lot happier. I had posted about Jone's "Beggars Banquet" (a Rolling Stones album reference) aka happy hour a few months ago, but I didn't try it out until recently. Look, I've got a lot of happy hours on my plate…I'm trying!

I think the fact that Jones offered a late night happy hour kind of slipped my mind, actually, but when I remembered, it was game time! Jones Cafe is rock n' roll meets Italian food meets Hollywood. I used to go to Jones for dates, meeting up with friends or just to grab a late night drink. The place is usually pretty packed and the same bartenders have been working there for years. The staff just oozes cool. It's dark inside, the booths have checkerboard tablecloths and the bar-side booths even have wire drapes - more for effect, I believe. The Cafe part is adjacent to the bar, but I never seem to make it over there.

My boyfriend and I decided to check out their happy hour the other evening. As usual, there is always a security guy outside that cards you before you enter. Once you go in, you can choose between sitting at the bar the nearby leather bar seats or sit down for a more intimate dining/drinking experience. It's nice that the Beggars Banquet is offered throughout the place and not just at the bar. The happy hour menu consists of $4 beers, $5 house wines and call drinks, $8 specialty cocktails and my favorite food at Jones - their pizza ($6). The pizza at Jones has a thinner crust and it's crispy yet chewy at the same time - a winning combination in my opinion.

When we got the check, my boyfriend handed her a gift card to run. Our server swiped it and gave us back our receipt. She had accidentally charged us for the non-happy hour main menu pizza price. I asked if she could change it to the happy hour price and she got a little annoyed. When she came back to the table, she said that couldn't change the amount because it had been run on gift card. Not only did she not apologize, but she didn't want to fix the mistake. Of course, the manager I asked for was more than happy to accommodate our request to fix the servers mistake. Whatever, no biggie, but just because you appear "cool" doesn't mean you should be too cool for your job.
