My girlfriends and I have found a new happy hour watering hole: Tortilla Republic. It’s conveniently located near each of us in West Hollywood and it happens to have one of my favorite jalapeño margaritas in town for $7. Just head south on Robertson off Santa Monica Boulevard and you’ll discover and a modern-ish-Mexican restaurant with terrific tequila selections and a perfect patio for brunch mimosas.
One of our favorite parts about their happy hour is that it’s offered throughout the entire restaurant and not just at the bar/lounge area. Happy hour at Tortilla Republic’s West Hollywood location runs Mondays, 5pm – 7pm and Tuesdays – Sundays, 3pm – 7pm with both drink and food specials.
As I mentioned above, the $7 happy hour jalapeño margarita is fantastic; it comes with just the right amount of fresh lime juice and spice. A house margarita is $6, but if you want to up your tequila game, then spend a little extra ($8) on the Olmeca Altos Plata margarita. Modelo and Corona beers are $4, wines by the glass or Sangria are $6 and if you have a big group, it may be advantageous to go with one of their pitchers.
The jalapeño croquetas are a great bar snack to pair with a housemade margarita. The croquetas are filled with potato puree, goat cheese, charred jalapeño and cilantro crema, then covered with panko crust and deep-fried to a perfect golden crispiness. You can’t go to a Mexican restaurant and not order tacos, so I suggest going with the carnitas tacos toped with pork, pickled jalapeños, tomatillo sauce and guacamole – they’re delicious. Am I speaking your happy hour language yet? It did happen to be Taco Tuesday the last time we went, so we had our server send us one of his reccomendations.
We all raved about the Huarache de Hongos – I order it every time. Imagine the combination of a flavorful crispy corn flatbread topped with oyster mushrooms, roasted shallots, jack and Manchego cheeses, baby arugula and white truffle oil…and then realize it’s only $7 on happy hour and that it’s freakin’ fantastic. You’ll just have to try it for yourself.
The ladies and I just tried brunch at Tortilla Republic recently and really enjoyed it as well, but you can’t beat the value of their stellar happy hour. This patio and people-watching WeHo “hot” spot offers some serious happy hour variety and if you haven’t noticed, plenty of jalapeños to boot!
