Fall has arrived, or as I refer to it “faux fall,” (because it was 103 degrees in L.A. the other day!) and bars and restaurants throughout the city are rushing to change the seasonal tone of their menus to match the anticipated autumnal transition.
Even though it feels like the local weather isn’t matching its month yet, I still want my fall fix. I literally found it the other night at Hinoki and the Bird in Century City.
Other cocktail standouts from the menu include The Looking Glass (Buffalo Trace bourbon, apple vanilla bean syrup, smoked hinoki apple) and Velvet Underground (Eagle Rare bourbon, banana tea, velvet falernum, toasted pecans bitters) – a great nightcap.
I always enjoy a snack with my drink and luckily, Westcott provided creative and edible garnishes for the new fall cocktails. The super thin apple slice on The Looking Glass is given a simple syrup wash and then baked and smoked with a tinge of fire before it takes its place on the rim of the glass.
If you want a slightly more substantial snack, I recommend ordering the local yellowtail with summer melon and cucumber - it’s sashimi heaven. Oh, and don't forget about their happy hour!
