All year we’ve awaited the comeback of Lafayette’s witty remarks, we’ve been fantasizing about Jason Stackhouse, Eric Northman, and Alcide Herveaux, and we’ve also been wondering what the hell Sookie will get herself into this time. Well, the wait is over! The final season of HBO’s True Blood premieres Sunday, June 22nd at 9 p.m. This is what we’ve all been waiting for- the grand finale. The distressing realization that we are nearing the end of an amazing television series was quickly followed by the remarkable idea that this calls for a season premiere party! During the past few days I have discovered cocktails and appetizers that will help transport you into the crazy town of Bon Temps, Louisiana once again.
Though there is a blood orange soda called Tru Blood on the market, it is near impossible to find (the only time I saw it was in a tiny gas station market off the I-15 on my way to Las Vegas). So, we just have to come up with our own versions, and then turn them into sinfully delicious cocktails.
Drink responsibly! You don’t want to wake up feeling like you’re meeting your true death tomorrow.
Fill a shaker tin with vodka, grenadine and ice. Shake until cold. Strain into a shot glass. Top with cold blood orange soda.
Shake with ice and strain over cubed ice into a highball glass. Top with 3 oz of Tru Blood. Garnish with a slice of grapefruit.
Pour vodka in a martini glass. Top with Champagne and pour a little of the Chambord over the back of the spoon to make it float.
Heat the oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 1/2- to 1-quart gratin dish or baking pan. Mix the ricotta, lemon juice and zest, garlic, chives, and salt, and a generous quantity of fresh black pepper. Spread in the baking dish and drizzle with olive oil. (At this point you can cover and refrigerate the ricotta overnight, if desired.) Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until hot. Drizzle again with olive oil. Serve immediately with crackers for dipping.
So here’s a throwback to season 1 and Tara Thornton’s ex-boyfriend, Eggs. Too bad he was unknowingly possessed and turned into a devilish character. This is our own recipe, so we're super proud of it.
Boil extra large or jumbo eggs for 20 minutes. Cool eggs in ice water and then drain. Crack and peel shells off of hard boiled eggs and rinse. Slice eggs lengthwise, remove yolk and place in a medium sized bowl. Add mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, pepper and hot sauce. Next, mash eggs yolks with a fork until you have your desired texture. Scoop egg mixture into your prepared egg white halves until all of your mixture is gone. Sprinkle with truffle salt. If you want added color, you can garnish the eggs with some fresh chopped dill.
Trim off the large obvious piece of fat that runs along the side of the meat. Next, cut strips less than 1-inch wide. Rotate the meat and cut into small bite-sized pieces. If you see any more large chunks of fat, gristle or long silvery membrane, cut them off. Sprinkle generously with kosher salt and freshly ground pepper. Toss the meat around a bit to thoroughly coat with the seasonings. Continue recipe...
